Under the Chains of the Black Flag

The Golden Age of Piracy, from around 1670-1725, was no innocent player to the trade of slaves.  Pirates too dabbled in whatever commodities they could find, no matter if it was tobacco, wines, gold, or people.  Not all pirates have been proven to have had chattel or have been proven to avoid the slave trade or free slaves.

This exhibit is dedicated to the information compiled about what pirates were caught with slaves, what ones have no record of slaves, and which ones had freedman working for them upon time of capture.

This exhibit is ever changing as we add more data to it, so please check back.  We also ask that if you find any primary sources on pirates and wish to submit that data to our map, please contact us!
